Introducing Orbis

Sound without gravity.

Twelve drivers inside a glass sphere that floats above its base. Orbis fills a room the way light does.

We did not set out to build a better speaker. We set out to remove one: the box, the cable, the table it stands on, even gravity. What remains is air, moving exactly as the artist intended.

Fig. 1A C major chord, drawn as the pressure field Orbis produces one metre away.

Three rules
we refused to bend.

  • 01

    Subtract

Every part has to earn its place. No buttons, no grille cloth, no logo on the front.

  • 02

    Suspend

Sound that touches furniture becomes furniture noise. So the instrument floats, coupled to nothing but air.

  • 03

    Surround

Music is recorded in rooms, not in stereo. Orbis rebuilds the room around you, one instrument at a time.

Technology

Everything inside Orbis exists to make the hardware inaudible. What reaches you is the recording, placed in your room.

Beam-formed field

Twelve drivers aim sound the way a lens aims light. Point anywhere on the field and the beam follows.

Room calibration

Its own microphones map your room and flatten the response in nine seconds.

4.2ms

From source to air. Lip-sync safe, even for film.

18mm

Magnetic levitation

Held by four electromagnets that correct its position 2,000 times a second.
